Hotel history

The original, old Baroque Pachta’s Palace and house of Earl Hubert Karel Pachta from Rajov number 208 in Old Prague Town belongs to a group of cultural and architectural monuments. It was built in the 18th century according to the design of architect Jan Josef Wirch. The Pachta family was of noble origin and had received their coat of arms from Emperor Franz Ferdinand in 1628. It can still be seen today at the head of the original entrance of the palace on Anenske Namesti.

Sculpture & Paintings

Smetana Hotel and adjoining to it Pachtuv Palace, feature an unique collection of art masterpieces and sculptures. Our inner courtyard could introduce you to the 3.4 meters tall statue Transparence et Lumiere made from same marble that Michelangelo used to create the Statue of David (the legendary Carrara marble) created by Maurizio Toffoletti. His artwork is greatly influenced by antiquity; he cites Egyptian art as having been particularly inspiring. The statue embodies the transcendence of female beauty through nature’s rawness but with a contemporary twist. The statue weighs 3.5 tonnes and 2 cranes were used in order to position it within our courtyard!
